Meet Robert Wertz II, MD
Growing up in central Pennsylvania, Dr. Wertz knew that he wanted to be a doctor at an early age while listening to his father, who is a general surgeon, talk about his work and accompanying him on rounds at the hospital. It wasn’t until medical school, however, that Dr. Wertz became interested in pain management after seeing how patients’ lives were transformed by alleviating them of the burden of chronic pain.

Dr. Wertz moved to the Lehigh valley in 1996 after completing his residency in Anesthesiology at the Pennsylvania State University and a fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. In joining OAA, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in treating patients with a variety of painful conditions, both acute and chronic. These include: chronic and acute back pain, sciatica, neck pain, spinal fractures, neuropathic pain (nerve pain), cancer pain, and more.

Dr. Wertz is one of the few physicians in the Lehigh Valley that offers Orthobiologic treatment options. Dr. Wertz has the distinction of being an affiliate of Bluetail Medical Group – a nationally renowned leader in the practice and advancement of orthopedic orthobiologic medicine.

While a medical student at Hershey Medical Center, Dr. Wertz developed an interest in clinical research and won the prestigious Howard E. Morgan award for basic science research. In his practice since coming to the Lehigh valley, he has participated in numerous clinical trials of novel pain therapies as either a principle or sub-investigator. His interest in current research brings cutting-edge treatments to the patients for whom he cares.
