
Meet Jay Kalawadia, MD
Originally from North Wales, Pennsylvania, Dr. Kalawadia is fellowship-trained in sports medicine and finds great satisfaction from working with a patient population that is motivated to get back to the activities they enjoy. He was initially drawn to the specialty of orthopaedics because the surgical outcomes are very rewarding for the patients and the fact that the field is predominately focused on improving a patient’s overall quality of life.

Throughout his practice and medical training, Dr. Kalawadia has had the unique opportunity to work with athletes and athletic programs of every caliber. He previously served as the Team Physician for area high schools, the University of Pittsburgh Panthers, and the Duquesne University Dukes. In addition, Dr. Kalawadia has provided medical coverage for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as the NCAA’s Big Ten and ACC tournaments.

Dr. Kalawadia specializes in arthroscopy and other minimally invasive surgical techniques that are constantly changing and improving for the benefit of the patient. He commonly treats patients and athletes with various hip, knee, and shoulder complications with conservative non-surgical treatment options, and when necessary, surgical intervention. From his fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh, he is trained in hip arthroscopy and cartilage restoration with biologics, two of the newest fields in orthopedics.

In addition to his devotion to patient care, Dr. Kalawadia has also been active in research, medical publications, and academic authorship. He has given numerous talks on cutting-edge topics to other orthopaedic surgeons at national conferences. He currently serves as a journal reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Journal, The Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy Journal – all of which are respected peer-reviewed medical journals focused on sports medicine.

In his free time Dr. Kalawadia likes to travel and enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and biking. He also considers himself a food enthusiast and likes to try new cuisines and restaurants.
